Roster Moves

The New York Mets today announced the release of outfielder Daniel Stegall from the club. Stegall was in the middle of his third season with the Sand Gnats at the time of his release. The Mets have added outfielder Evan LeBlanc to the active Savannah roster to replace Stegall. LeBlanc, 23, missed all of the 2008 season with a wrist injury after the Mets drafted him in the 23rd round of last year’s MLB Draft. The Tucson, Ariz. product played two collegiate seasons at Santa Clara University after playing his freshman season at Yavapai University in Arizona. LeBlanc was a unanimous All-WCC selection in 2008, leading the Broncos in batting average (.376) and stolen bases (11) and leading the conference in hits (86). LeBlanc also sported a 14-game hitting streak during his final collegiate campaign. LeBlanc played two games at Rookie-League Kingsport at the time of his call-up going 3-for-9 with a double, triple and an RBI. He is available for tonight’s home contest. Stegall was hitting .146 at the time of his release with a home run and three RBI in 11 games played.
