Savannah 7, Rome 4

Savannah scored all seven of their runs off Braves starter Randall Delgado (4-9) in its, 7-4, win over Rome Saturday night in the first game of a three-game series. The Gnats used a six-run second and a run in the third to chase the starter who no-hit Savannah through seven innings the last time he faced them in Rome on August 7.
Delgado looked impressive in the first, striking out the side, but that would be the end of it as the Gnats sent 10 men to the plate in the second and scored six runs. Joey August, who finished the game 1-for-4, drove in a pair of runs with a double to right-center to open up a, 3-0, Gnats lead. Wilmer Flores and Josh Satin also added RBI singles in the inning to help the Gnats to their six-run lead.
In the third, it was August driving in his third run of the game with a fielder’s choice that made it, 7-0.
The seven runs proved to be enough for the Gnats and starter Eric Beaulac (7-7), who worked five innings and permitted three runs. All three of Rome’s runs off Beaulac came in the fifth when Luis Sumoza doubled off the base of the right-field wall to clear the bases. The Troy, N.Y. native worked out of the inning with no further damage.
Phillips Orta worked two innings and allowed one run while Jimmy Johnson made his first appearance with the Gnats since rejoining the club earlier this week. Johnson picked up where he left off earlier in the year as he pitched a scoreless, perfect eighth with a strikeout. Rhiner Cruz struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 21st save of the season.
Eric Campbell led the Savannah offensive with three hits while Nick Giarraputo finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. In four games with the club, Giarraputo is 7-for-15 with 4 RBI.
The Gnats (24-27, 59-62), winners of two straight, will look for their third consecutive win tomorrow when they face Rome at 2 p.m. The Braves will send 18-year-old Julio Teheran (1-2, 5.82) to the mound in the second game of the series while Savannah has yet to name a starter.
