3-20: - Minors Stuff

Spring Training:

-I'm sure SP Johan Santana had hoped for a better result from his outing against his old team, the Twins. This was the first time he's ever faced them since "the trade", and Johan lasted only 3.1 innings, giving up five runs and changing his ST ERA to 9.00. Don't worry... he's be the SP on opening day...

-sadly, for the Twins, there were none of the guys the Mets traded for Santana in their lineup... that's how good this trade turned out for the Mets

-where are those four guys and what did they do last year:

-Kevin Mulvey:  -  still in the Twins organization... 5-8, 3.93 in 2009 at the AAA level

-Deolis Guerra  -  still in Twins organization... 12-11, 4.89 at A+/AA in 2009

-Phillip Humber  -  now ith Kansas City, gave up 10 runs the other day in one outing... AAA record last year:  7-9, 5.34...  MLB stats last year:  0-0, 8.00

-Carlos Gomez:  -  meh career so far... lifetime MLB BA: .246

-there's been a fair amount writen lately on the chances of either Sean Green or Bobby Parnell going to  Queens next month. According to some writers, both of these guys jobs are in trouble... well, Green didn't do anything to help after he didn't bail out Johan. Green (.579) let two more be charges to Santana, and then had one more charged against himself... before Parnell was brought in to bail him out.

-speaking of Parnell, both he (3.24) and P Pat Misch (0.00) pitched two runless innings, strengthening their claim for a bullpen spot in April. Right now, Green looks to be the odd man out, but it's still only halfway through the ST season.
-lots of bats aren't coming through this week... David Wright is down to .241... IF Frank Catalanotto is a miserable .071.

-there was a Nick Evans (0-0, 0.00) sighting, so I guess we can take him off the "mash list".

Buffalo:

-SS Ruben Tejada started today's game against Minnesota... singled first time up... followed that (.400 at the time) with his 3rd double of ST...

-CF Fernando Martinez started today's game vs. the Twins... there's no reason to keep playing this kid if you're sending him to Buffalo in a few weeks... let him return to the minor league complex and play the exhibition schedule with the Bisons... then again...

-2B Russ Adams also started today at second... these next few games will decide whether Adams or Mike Jacobs wins that last utility spot availabe on the 25-man...

-C Omir Santos got the job of catching Johan Santana against his old team (first time...)... and he wasted little time trying to convince Jerry he should go to Queens next month, by hitting his 2nd ST home run in the 2nd inning.

VSL Mets:

-there are no more VSL Mets… instead, the Mets will have two teams in the DSL league
