Mar 23 - ST Recap - Mets 7, Atlanta 4

Spring Training:

I already posted today's cuts. Like I said there, no surprised, and it's probably good for everybody to get Ike Davis out of the locker room. Now the Mets can concentrate on who's going to play first next month, Chris Carter, Fernando Tatis, Daniel Murphy, or Mike Jacobs.

Today's first baseman was Murphy, who went into the game with a .133 ST BA.

Alex Cora gets to play shortstop for one more game, maybe two... then, Jose Reyes will be back in the lineup, hopefully for the remainder of the season....

Other than Cora, this could be the opening day lineup.

Oliver Perez became the latest in a string of starting ptichers that gave up runs in the first inning...

It was interesting to hear Jerry Manuel being interviewed on ESPN during the game. You can't bullship on national TV like you can with beat reporters. The boys in the booth asked some straignt questions and Manual gave some straight answers:

Green looked blue...

    - Jonathan Niese has the inside track on the SP5 slot

-Fernando Nieve will probably head to the bullpen

-there was no mention of Nelson Figueroa, who looks out on both slots

-Both Henry Blanco and Rod Barajas will make the 25-man

-a mention that Ryota "don't call me toyota"  Igarashi might make the bullpen (which won't make Robert Parnell very happy)...

-the most important thing Jerry did was word his discussion on the SP2-3-4 guys that he had "projected" this year "if they pitch well"...  hmm...

Talk about your rotation as being "projected if they pitch well..."...  keep showcasing Mejia and Carter...

Like I said on another post today... watch for BIG NEWS to come out of the ST camp before opening day... I'm talkin' B I G  N E W S.
