LAST GAME: Binghamton lost its 10th game in its last 11 with
a 5-2 shortcoming at New Britain Sunday afternoon. Down 2-0
after four innings, the B-Mets rallied to tie in the fifth with RBI
singles from Michael Moras and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. However,
in the bottom of the frame, starter Scott Shaw ran into trouble,
walking a pair of men and allowing a single to fill the
bases with one out, leading to his departure. Emary Frederick
came on for his first outing with Binghamton and promptly
struck out the first man he faced before giving up a two-out,
two-run single to Yangervis Solarte. That proved to be enough
for New Britain, which got a stellar start from Carlos Gutierrez.
Gutierrez worked a season-long 7.2 innings and allowed just
two runs on seven hits to notch his first win of 2010. Shaw
was hung with his third straight loss. The righty was charged
for four runs over 4.1 innings. Luis Hernandez was the only BMets
player who managed two hits, a single and a triple in
four trips to the plate.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mike Antonini will make
his ninth start of the season tonight. He is coming off a short,
five-inning start May 19 versus Bowie in which he allowed four
runs on six hits to take the loss, his second in succession. The
southpaw is 3-4 with a 4.84 ERA over 44.2 innings and hasn’t
walked a man in his last 10.2 innings. Antonini went 7-5 with
a 5.32 ERA over 25 appearances, 20 starts, spanning 115
innings last year with Binghamton. He was the Mets 18th
round choice in the June 2007 draft out of Georgia College &
State University
RHP David Mixon will go for his fifth win of the year tonight. He
is coming off his worst start of the season. May 19 versus Erie
he surrendered six runs on seven hits over four innings to
drop to 4-2 on the year. Mixon carries a 3.28 ERA over 46.2
innings, including a complete-game, shutout April 27 in Game
2 of a twinbill at New Britain. The Georgia native is in his first
full season as a starter. He appeared in 39 games last season
for San Jose (High-A) and racked up a 3-1 mark and a 3.29
ERA over 63 innings. The Giants took him in the 20th round of
the June 2007 draft out of the University of Louisiana-Monroe
