LAST GAME: Brad Holt finally showed up Friday night just in
time to shut down Akron in the B-Mets 2-1 victory at NYSEG
Stadium. Holt hurled a season-best, five innings of shutout
baseball and allowed just one hit, with three walks and four
strikeouts to notch his first win of the year. Aeros starter Alex
White was almost as good with a quality start of six innings in
which he allowed just two runs, one earned, on four hits. However,
he was hung with the loss. Binghamton manufactured
runs in the third and fourth innings after getting leadoff men
on base. Kirk Nieuwenhuis drove in Reese Havens with a sac
fly to right after Havens had doubled to start the third. Eric
Campbell scored the B-Mets final run in the fourth on a White
wild pitch after he had singled to open the frame. Following
Holt, Scott Shaw made his first relief appearance and hurled 2
1/3 innings scoreless. Clint Everts notched the save, stranding
the tying and go-ahead runs on base when he got the final
out.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mike Antonini is due to
make his team-leading 10th start of the season tonight. The
lefty gave the B-Mets a chance to win May 24 against Richmond
but did not factor in the decision after a quality start.
Antonini worked six, strong innings, allowed two runs on seven
hits with a season-high seven strikeouts. He has not issued a
walk in his last three starts spanning 16.2 innings. For the
year, the southpaw is 3-4 with a 4.62 ERA over 50.2 innings.
Antonini went 7-5 with a 5.32 ERA over 25 appearances, 20
starts, spanning 115 innings last year with Binghamton. He
was the Mets 18th round choice in the June 2007 draft out of
Georgia College & State University.
RHP Steven Wright will make a spot start of Akron tonight,
taking the place of Scott Barnes, who is being skipped over in
the rotation. Wright has strung together five straight scoreless
appearances and is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA over 11.2 innings
with the Aeros. He was a perfect 10-0 with a 2.32 ERA in 36
appearances, five starts, spanning 81.1 innings with Akron
last year. Cleveland took him in the second round of the June
2006 draft out of the University of Hawaii.
NO SOUP FOR YOU!: B-Mets third baseman Eric Campbell has
made the best of his recent promotion to Double-A in the
absence of the injured Zach Lutz. Campbell has recorded
multi-hit games in four straight contests. Overall, he has hit in
six straight with a .440 (11-25) average and eight RBI.
SHAW DEBUTS IN THE BULLPEN: RHP Scott Shaw who has
worked exclusively as a starter during his three-year career in
the Mets organization made just his second career relief appearance
last night and impressed with 2.1 shutout innings
