Mets Option INF Daniel Murphy,

RHP Manny Acosta to Bisons

The New York Mets today announced that they have optioned INF DANIEL MURPHY and RHP MANNY ACOSTA to the Buffalo Bisons. Both players have been activated for tonight’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

To make room on the Bisons roster, OF D.J. WABICK has been transferred to Double-A Binghamton and C TONY MACCANI has been transferred to Single-A Brooklyn.

Murphy, 25, began the 2010 season on the Mets 15-day disabled list with a grade 1 sprain of the MCL in his right knee. He was activated today prior to his option. Murphy played three games with Single-A St. Lucie to rehab the injury, May 21-23, and hit .727 (8-11) with a home run and six RBI. In his last game, Murphy went 5-5 with three RBI.

Murphy spent all of last season with the Mets and hit .266 (135-508) with 38 doubles, 12 home runs and 63RBI in 155 games. He led the Mets in home runs and games played and finished 12th in the National League in doubles. Murphy made 97 starts at first base and 27 in left field for New York in 2009.

Murphy has played just one Triple-A game in his four-year career. He was promoted from Double-A to Triple-A New Orleans on August 1, 2008 and went 1-4 with two runs scored in his Zephyrs debut. The next day he had his contract selected by the Mets and finished the season with a .313 average (41-131) in 49 games in New York.

Acosta began the 2010 season with the Bisons and was 0-1 with a 2.16ERA in five games. He was promoted to New York on April 21 and spent over a month with the Mets. In his big league time, Acosta was 1-1 with a 3.00ERA in 12 games (12.0IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 8BB, 14K).

Acosta did not allow a run in his final seven appearances for the Mets.
