Bisons’ OF Jesus Feliciano Named

International League Batter of the Week

Feliciano hit .483 last week to add to IL-best Average

The International League today announced that Bisons OF JESUS FELICIANO has named the League’s Batter of the Week for May 17-23.

The IL’s best hitter in 2010, Feliciano had five multi-hit games during the past week, including three-hit efforts on Monday against Norfolk and in yesterday’s 6-5 win in Lehigh Valley. During the past week, he lead the IL in average (.483), hits (14), runs scored (8) and on-base percentage (.543). Feliciano also added four doubles, a triple, five walks and a stolen base to help the Bisons win five consecutive games.

On the season, Feliciano has averaged .383 (51-133) in 41 games for the Bisons. His batting average is 34 points higher than Durham’s Hank Blalock, who is now playing in the major leagues with Tampa Bay. Feliciano is also second in the International League in on-base percentage (.435), fourth in hits (51) and fifth in runs scored (29).

Last season, Feliciano led the International League with 154 hits.

Feliciano is the second Bisons player to earn the honor this season. INF MIKE HESSMAN was IL Batter of the Week for April 26-May 2.

Mack...

I realize that Feliciano isn't a prospect, more of a career minor leaguer from the Mets Point of View...Isn't he capable of playing centerfield?

From what I saw in the WBC and some other minor league games on tv, Pedro is hardly spectacular but he is a smart baseball player that plays within his means (in otherwords, he's not one of the small guys that are gonna swing for the fences)...

So why wouldn't the Mets dump Gary Mathews Jr, who is a waste of roster space, and allow Feliciano to be Pagan's backup?

The Mets have also committed themselves to the city of Buffalo, after last year's embarassing season.

They really don't want to lose that affiliate and they need to stock that team with the best AAAA players they can find.

Feliciano is better served playing every day there than sitting on the bench in Queens.
