LAST GAME: Fresh down from the Major Leagues, Jenrry Mejia made his first start of the season under a strict pitch limit and  offered up 2.1 innings of one-run work. After Mejia’s departure, New Britain’s hitters took control. Chris Schwinden was hit for five runs over 1.2 innings to take the loss and Edgar Ramirez did not fare much better, allowing four runs on six
hits. The Rock Cats ripped 17 hits en route to a 10-2 drubbing of Binghamton. Mark Dolenc led the way for New Britain with three hits and a game-high four RBI. Chris Parmelee and Erik

Lis also managed three-hit performances to contribute to the Rock Cats big day. Clint Everts proved to be the most effective hurler for the B-Mets, tossing the final 2.2 innings of the game

in scoreless fashion. Jose Coronado and Mike Nickeas each ripped two hits in the loss.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Eric Niesen will make his 10th start of the season tonight. The southpaw beat Richmond in his last start June 17 at The Diamond with 5.1 innings

of scoreless work. Niesen limited the Flying Squirrels to four hits and four walks while striking out five. On the year, he is 2-3 with a 2.94 ERA over 33.2 innings. He spent a month on the disabled list with a concussion April 26-May 26. The southpaw led all Mets minor leaguers with 134 strikeouts in 2009. He was the Mets’ third-round choice in 2007 out of Wake Forest and is considered the No. 24 prospect in the  Mets farm system by Baseball America.

RHP Mike McCardell is due to make his 14th start of the season tonight for New Britain. He was roughed for a season-high seven runs on eight hits over three innings for a loss in his last start, June 19th at Reading. McCardell is 0-7 with a 5.16 ERA over 75 innings with the Rock Cats in 2010 and opponents are hitting .304 off the righty. He split 2009 between Ft. Myers (High-A) and New Britain, tabulating a 14-8 mark and a 3.98 ERA over 142.1 innings between the two stops. He was Minnesota’s sixth round pick in the June 2007 draft out of Kutztown University.
