New Britian 10, Binghamton 2 - Mejia Debutes

from press release...

A day removed from handing New Britain a 13-3 drubbing, the B-Mets received a dose of their own medicine with a 10-2 rout at the hands of the Rock Cats Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Jenrry Mejia proved to be the highlight, hurling 2 1/3 innings in his first start with Binghamton since being optioned down from New York.  New Britain (19-52) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Mejia walked Chris Cates with one out. Erik Lis and Chris Parmelee followed with singles to plate the Rock Cats shortstop.

Binghamton (35-36) responded against starter Carlos Gutierrez in the third with three consecutive singles to lead off the inning. Luis Hernandez, Sean Ratliff and Nick Evans combined to plate the tying run. The single for Evans extended his season-long hitting streak to nine games.

Chris Schwinden, who was scheduled to piggyback with Mejia, entered the tied game in the fourth. New Britain was quick to pounce, retaking the lead with RBI singles from Juan Portes and Mark Dolenc.

Clint Everts proved to be the most effective pitcher for the B-Mets. He tossed the final 2 2/3 innings in scoreless fashion, putting an end to the Rock Cats 17-hit night.

Coronado and Nickeas both managed two-hit days in the losing cause.

The B-Mets will try for their third consecutive series win Thursday night at 6:35 PM in the rubber match of the set. Binghamton will send LHP Eric Niesen (2-3, 2.94) to the hill and the Rock Cats will counter with RHP Mike McCardell (0-7, 5.16). The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
