2011 DRAFT: - Chance Bolcerek, Skylar Janisse, Scott Lyman, Michael Goodnight... and Nick Maronde

Chance Bolcerek:

7-13-10: - MaxPreps Junior All-American Baseball Team - Chance Bolcerek, Brenham (Brenham, Texas), Outfield - A member of the Houston Chronicle's All-Greater Houston team, as well as the Class 4A all-state team, Bolcerek batted .549 for the state champion Cubs while scoring 55 runs, with 73 hits and 62 RBI. The District 18-4A MVP also had 19 doubles and 10 home runs.

Skylar Janisse:

7-25 from: - link  - Very new to the major prospect scene, so my information about him is somewhat limited. He’s a tall, projectable Canadian that was named to the Under Armour game, and I have him as a kid that pretty much sits 88-90 with definitely more to come. Has a promising, but erratic breaking ball that has been described to me as both a curve and slider, so I wonder if he throws both or if it’s a slurvy type of pitch. I’m guessing that he’s flashed both, but don’t quote me on that. Anyway, it’s a potential above-average pitch, but is more often below-average.

Scott Lyman:

7-25-10 from: - http://www.macksmets.blogspot.com/ : - Scott Lyman- UC Davis (SP, OF, CL)- Lyman is another potential five (5) tool guy, but the question is whether he will pitch or be an OF. Similar to Crocker he is a big and strong 6'2" 210lbs. As a freshman he only pitched in relief getting 2 saves in 39 IP, but there are control problems walking more than he struck out and also nearly walking one per inning. On the flip side he sits 91-92 touching 94 and his velocity in the 7th inning isn't noticeably lower than the 1st inning. His secondary pitches are a work in progress as he gets in trouble while batter's sit on his fastball. In 2010 he became a two way player displaying similar wildness (6+ ERA) to 2009, but with many more K's. In addition, he hit .356 in the middle of the line-up for the Aggies with 5 HR's in a cavernous Dobbins Stadium. Scott's older brother Jeff is a SP in the Braves organization and to me is a for sure top 5-10 round pick depending on whether he goes position player or on the hill.

Michael Goodnight:

7-26-10 from: - link  - Yarmouth-Dennis’ Michael Goodnight (Houston) is this week’s Cape Cod League Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week. Goodnight has been lights out in his second year for Y-D, and put together his strongest performance of the season last week in a 2-0 victory over Cotuit. He came up one out short of recording a one-hit shutout, striking out nine over 8.2 innings. The college sophomore is following up a strong 2009 with Y-D (2-0, 2.52 ERA) with another promising season. He is tied with three other Red Sox for third in the league with three wins and also sports a 2.10 ERA.

Nick Maronde:

7-26 from: - link  - Here are some names of draft eligibles for 2011 who have not been mentioned much and are definitely on the radar for 2011 MLB scouting depts. - LHP - Nick Maronde, Florida, 6'2 215, has been in the bullpen much of his career for Gators thus far. Still has the arm that scouts covet.
