LAST GAME: Despite digging itself an early 7-2 hole, the BMets

powered their way to seven unanswered runs en route to

a 12-8 triumph over Portland yesterday. Josh Stinson did not

have his best stuff, as he surrendered seven runs on seven

hits over 2.1 innings. However, Zach Lutz helped Binghamton

get back into the game in his first game back after a twomonth

hiatus from the lineup. Lutz cracked a two-run homer

in his first trip to the plate off Alex Wilson. He ended with a 3-4

performance with three runs scored and three RBI. Wilson, on

the other hand, was harassed for nine runs over five-plus

innings to take the loss. Nick Evans tied the game at seven in

the fourth with a two-run double and gave Binghamton the

lead with another two-run double in the sixth. Evans ended

the day with three doubles and four RBI in five trips to the

dish. Dylan Owen earned the win for the B-Mets with 3.2 innings

of terrific relief, limiting the Sea Dogs to just one hit.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mark Cohoon will make

his seventh start with the B-Mets tonight. He put up his best

start in Double-A in his last turn through the rotation, July 23

versus Erie when he allowed two runs over 5.1 innings in a

loss. Cohoon is 1-3 with a 6.37 ERA over 29.2 innings. He

opened the season with Savannah and racked up a 7-1 mark

and a measly 1.30 ERA over 13 starts (90.1 IP). His ERA

paced the South Atlantic League, as did his three shutouts.

Cohoon was a New York-Penn League All-Star last season with

Brooklyn (SS-A) thanks to a 9-2 record and a 2.15 ERA over

92 innings. The Mets drafted him in the 12th round of the

June 2008 draft out of North Central Texas College.

RHP Stephen Fife gets the call for the Sea Dogs in the series

finale tonight. He took the loss in his last start, July 23 versus

Harrisburg, after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits

over six innings. Fife is 6-3 with a 3.73 ERA over 99 innings

with Portland. He made 18 starts between Greenville (Low-A)

and Salem (High-A) last season and went 3-5 with a 3.71 ERA

over 87.1 innings combined. Fife was Boston’s fourth-round

pick in the June 2008 draft out of the University of Utah
