LAST GAME: Binghamton handily swept a doubleheader away

from New Britian last night behind two sparkling pitching

performances from Mark Cohoon and Jenrry Mejia. The BMets

won Game 1 8-1 thanks to a complete-game effort from

Cohoon and a 13-hit rampage. Cohoon hurled seven innings

and allowed a run on five hits, while striking out eight for his

third straight win. Zach Lutz and Josh Satin each ripped three

hits and Sean Ratliff supplied the power with a three-run blast

in the second inning, which gave Binghamton an 8-0 lead.

Rock Cats starter Chris Province was harassed for eight runs

on 11 hits over 3.1 innings. Mejia bettered Cohoon in the

nightcap with a seven-inning shutout. The 20-year-old phenom

dazzled New Britain, limiting them to three hits and three

walks in facing three over the minimum for his second win.

Ratliff again provided the pop with 2-for-3 showing including a

pair of doubles and two RBI.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Robert Carson takes the

ball for Binghamton in search of the sweep. The southpaw last

started August 20 versus Altoona and allowed four runs on six

hits over six innings, but did not factor in the decision. Carson

is 1-4 with a 7.43 ERA over seven starts (36.1 IP). Eastern

League opponents are hitting .340 off him. The lefty made 17

appearances in the Florida State League and went 7-5 with a

4.17 ERA over 86.1 innings. He made 25 starts for Savannah

(Low-A) in 2009 and tallied an 8-10 mark with a 3.21 ERA

over 131.2 innings. Carson was selected in the 14th round of

the June 2007 draft out of Hattiesburg HS (MS).

RHP Bobby Lanigan will take the hill for the Rock Cats for his

eighth start. He has lost three straight outings, including his

last, August 20 at New Hampshire, when he allowed six runs

on nine hits over 5.1 innings. Lanigan is 2-3 with a 5.50 ERA

over 37.2 innings. He opened the season with Fort Myers

(High-A) and impressed with a 3-1 mark and a 2.15 ERA over

11 appearances (54.1 IP) with just seven walks. Lanigan

spent the bulk of 2009 with Beloit (Low-A) where he went 10-

7 with a 4.52 ERA over 22 starts (123.1 IP) before finishing

the season in Fort Myers. Minnesota drafted him in the third

round of the June 2008 draft out of Adelphi University.
