LAST GAME: Binghamton dropped the finale of its three-game

set with New Britain 8-6 Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Robert Carson made his eighth start and acquitted himself

well until a troublesome fourth inning that saw the Rock Cats

chalk up four runs. Juan Portes did the bulk of the damage

with a three-run homer and Tobias Streich rounded out the

frame with an RBI single that vaulted New Britain into a 5-1

lead. Carson was hung with the loss after allowing seven runs

on seven hits over four-plus innings. Rock Cats’ starter Bobby

Lanigan lasted just three innings, but limited the B-Mets to a

run before giving way to Mike McCardell. McCardell was credited

with the win for tossing three innings of two-run relief. The

righty gave up a two-run blast to Brahiam Maldonado in the

fourth that brought Binghamton within two. The B-Mets made

one more feverish rally in the ninth to get within two, but Billy

Bullock struck out Raul Reyes with the tying runs aboard in

the ninth to nail down the save, his 12th.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eric Beaulac will make

his Double-A debut tonight at Reading. He opened the season

with St. Lucie (High-A) and racked up a 5-5 mark and a 3.59

ERA over 102.2 innings. Beaulac’s final start in the Florida

State League was August 21 versus Jupiter when he allowed

five runs over six innings and took the loss. Opposing hitters

hit just .237 against him. In 2009, he spent the year in Savannah’s

(Low-A) rotation and went 7-7 with a 2.95 ERA over 116

innings with 133 strikeouts, the second-most among Mets’

minor league pitchers. New York (NL) drafted Beaulac in the

ninth round of the June 2008 draft out of LeMoyne College.

RHP Mike Cisco will make his 14th start for the R-Phils tonight.

He took a loss in his last start, August 20 at Erie, where

he allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings.

Cisco is 3-9 with a 5.12 ERA over 70.1 innings and has

walked just 18 over that stretch. He opened 2009 with Clearwater

(High-A), where he was 7-3 with a 3.31 ERA over 73.1 IP

and closed year with Reading (AA), with whom he was 2-4 with

a 4.58 ERA over seven starts (39.1 IP). Cisco was drafted in

the 36th round of the June 2008 draft out of the University of

South Carolina.
