Q&A Weekend: - Trading Jose Reyes

I got a comment to one of my postings from that guy named Anon Ymous saying:

Why does everyone want to trade Jose Reyes? This is preposterous! The Mets have NO ONE capable of replacing him! None of the prospects listed, ESPECIALLY Havens & Tejeda, are anywhere NEAR the talent of Reyes. Has the Mets' tendency to OVER INFLATE the quality of their prospects infected non-Mets employees as well? It seems as though it has. Will someone PLEASE stop this insanity!

I, for one, don't want to trade Jose Reyes. I have seen first hand how much better this team plays with him in the lineup.

That being said, every player has a value which eventually begins to diminish in time. In my opinion, that clock has already begun to tick for Reyes and the Mets should consider trading him while the trading is good.

No one is saying that Reese Havens or Ruben Tejada is better than Reyes.

What I am saying is the Mets should consider grading down at shortstop to a player still capable of playing every day at the major league level, and trading their "all-star" shortstop for another "all-star" who plays at a position that is critically needed by the Mets.

You can't win this game without pitching, but you can win it with a non-all-star shortstop. Johan Santana is out. Jenrry Mejia is down for the count. And Mets writers are excited about a pitcher that sits at 88 (Dillon Gee).

Reyes could get you that SP2 or SP3 that is needed immediately and a player like Tejada may not make Mets fans forget Reyes, but he will generate his own headlines someday.

Remember now... this is the first "Q&A Weekend"... I have five move questions I will be answering today and tomorrow, but I have plenty of time to answer more...  send your question now to:  macksmets@gmail.com and I would love to try and help you understand the strange world of baseball.
