B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: B-Mets starter Brad Holt walked a career-high eight and uncorked four wild pitches in a 7-2 sweep-completing loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday in Manchester. The Fisher Cats converted three walks, a wild pitch, a balk, and only one hit into a three-run first inning. John Tolisano extended the lead to four with a solo home run in the second and Ricardo Nanita’s sacrifice fly in the third made it 5-0. The B-Mets finally got on the board against New Hampshire starter Rey Gonzalez in the fifth. Carlos Guzman and Jean Luc Blaquiere kicked off the frame with back-to-back singles. A sac bunt from Lorenzo Scott moved them up, and Jordany Valdespin’s sacrifice fly brought Guzman home. The Fisher Cats had a quick rebuttal off reliever Brandon Sage in the bottom half of the frame as Moises Sierra launched a two-run home run. Binghamton scratched out their final score of the game on Eric Campbell’s RBI single in the eighth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Robert Carson makes his eighth start of the year and first against Harrisburg in 2011. The left-hander allowed two runs on six hits in a season-high 7.0 inning performance against the Trenton Thunder on May 14. Carson struck out eight in the no-decision.

RHP Brad Peacock makes his seventh start of the season. The Florida native is on a five-game winning streak, has gone seven innings or longer in four of his starts, and given up more that two runs in only one of his appearances. Peacock was selected by the Nationals in the 41st round of the 2006 draft out Palm Beach Central HS.

OFF TO A ROUGH START: In three combined starts against the Fisher Cats in the previous series, Brandon Moore, Mark Co-hoon, and Brad Holt went 0-3 with a 12.34 ERA. The three starters logged 11.2 innings and allowed 23 runs (16 earned) on 20 hits. The trio walked 11 and unleashed six wild pitches.

MUCH-NEEDED HOME COOKING: Binghamton stumbles back to NYSEG Stadium after completing a 1-6 roadtrip. This season the B-Mets have gone 6-17 away from home and hit just .214 as a team. The pitching staff has compiled a 4.72 ERA on the road. Binghamton has hit at a .255 clip and amassed a 3.57 ERA at home.

SWEPT AWAY: The B-Mets were swept for the third time this season and second at the hands of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. It was the first sweep that went more than two games.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: B-Mets first baseman Allan Dykstra celebrates his 24th birthday today.
