I May Be Wrong, But…

1. word I’m getting is the pop potential in some of the Mets young Latino prospects is starting to show through. First, it was 2B/SS Jordany Valdespin who hit a total of 14 home runs in his first four seasons in the Mets chain, hit 17 last year between Binghamton and Buffalo. Then, I noticed ex-coach Chip Hale’s comments on how 2B/SS Ruben Tejada is being to bulk up. Now, 3B Jefry Marte has hit three home runs in the same amount of games while playing in the AFL. Add to this Wilmer Flores and Aderlin Rodriguez and it’s obvious where Omar & Company concentrated their scouting expertise all those years.

2. I talked with an American League scout today and he told me that the trade for P Zack Wheeler could turn out to be the “trade of the decade” once 2020 comes around. He said that the respect in the scouting industry for the Mets pitching system went sky high after Jeurys Familia’s year and the Wheeler deal. He also told me “it’s almost impossible to believe that a team could have a better pitching prospect than Matt Harvey, but the Mets now do.”

3. are you watching this series? How many times have I said pitching, pitching, and more pitching? Sure, these aren’t two Moneyball teams and they have great hitters, but it’s pitching that got them here and it’s pitching that will get one team to take the trophy home.  Five starters… seven relievers… ten of them need to be great.

4. Anybody you talk to either in general baseball or specifically involved with the Mets, believes that Jose has played his last game as a Met.  What this will mean is that Ruben Tejada will become the next full time Mets shortstop and the value of Jordany Valdespin goes up tenfold.

5. Regarding Syria, this is how you fight a war in the Middle East. You let the local people fight each other in a civil war and you support them through an organization like NATO. No loss of life, minimal cost. Moneyball War.
