Jordany Valdespin was back in CF for game one and Josh Satin played
first… 3B Zach Lutz hit his third homer early
on… SP Jeurys Familia started strong and
remained that way until the fourth when he gave up a home run to … err… what’s
that guy’s name? Oh, yeah… Harper… Bryce Harper (and,
easily 500+)… Familia had a quality start – 5.0-IP, 4-H, 1-R, 8-K, 3-BB, 93/56
pitches… SS Omar Quintanilla had 3-hit, 3-RBI
game… RP Chuck James came in, gave up a walk and
a hit and was sent packing with his 0.00 ERA intact… second game featured Chris Schwinden against Tanner
Roark… 2B Michael Fisher remains
hitless for the season… Schwinden takes the loss despite 2.05 ERA.
One additional point about Familia... this was a great outing for a pitcher that will remain a rotational pitcher throughout his minor league career. My opinion is he will be the first of the Mets prospect pitchers to graduate to Queens, probably as a September starter; however, it is also my opinion that he will eventually wind up in the pen from simple mathematics.
These are just opinions, and most opinions turn out wrong.
IMO, the 2014 rotation will be Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey, Chris Young,
Jon Niese, and Matt Harvey.
That's my opinion. It's not etched in stone and it's not negative. It's just what I believe at 5:48pm EST on Sunday.
I'm not trying to be more right than other minor league bloggers... I just offer up what I think and would hope other writers would respect my opinion for what it is, an opinion
Look... I started this minor league blog stuff... then, the guy before Toby (can't remember his name) came along on SNY, followed by a myriad amount of great writers... Petey... Rob... Toby... David.. all excellent writers with strong opinions. But, that's all they are... opinions.
No opinion is attacking someone else and, if I think a pitcher will wind up in the pen, that's my current perception.

Perception wise, we are both correct.
No basic changes in the lineup, but
3B Josh Rodriguez (.311) hit third… concern here is leadoff CF Matt den Dekker who went in with 16-H and 17-K in
62-AB. Guess what he did to lead off the first? 3B-1B Eric
‘Soup’ Campbell out with sore shoulder…
also, 1B-OF Travis Ozga out for just
being plain ole sick… back to back doubles by Rylan
Sandoval (double, triple, 4-RBIs)
and den Dekker made it 4-0… SP Collin McHugh had
a wonderful outing: 6.0-IP, 0-ER, 6-K, 1.59… but don’t get excited and think
he’s going to Buffalo soon. There just isn’t any room there… converted
ex-starter Armondo Rodriguez pitched two more
scoreless innings and now has a seasonal 1.00 ERA… only negative in this game
was two more errors.
SP Cory
Mazzoni got tagged pretty good… gave up six earned runs in three
innings, but still left the game with a seasonal ERA of 3.79… it’s hard to shut
down this team, but LHP Pat Dean did… that is, until the five run 6th inning... we probably need to start taking 2B Danny Muno a little more seriously... long man John Church gave up a rare run but still sports a respectable 2.25 ERA (I've got to watch what I say about John cause him Mom will kick my ass...) ...
The Gnats played Hickory, who’s
leadoff hitter was named Rougned Odor… name
would never pass spellcheck… four players (Aderlin
Rodriguez, Tillman Pugh, Greg Pron, Albert Cordero) playing this game
below the Mendoza line… this may be the
all-time worst hitting lineup of A-ball. They had one hit in the first five
innings and that guy raised his seasonal BA to .103 ( you have to bring up the likes of Brandon
Nimmo, Phillip Evans, and Gilbert Gomez) … game was ended after five innings due to rain… SP Michael Fulmer went home with a seasonal ERA of 2.57.
