Game #120 • Saturday, August 11, 2012

LAST GAME: Mark Cohoon took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and struck out a season-high ten Harrisburg Senators en route to his fifth career complete game shutout in a 5-0 win last night at Metro Bank Park. It was the B-Mets third straight win and pushed the club to within six games of a playoff berth. Justin Bloxom broke up the no-hit bid with a double with one out in the seventh inning. It was one of only two hits allowed by Cohoon in the second nine-inning shutout thrown by a B-Mets starter this season. The B-Mets took the lead with two runs in the fifth against starter Ryan Perry on an RBI double by Raul Reyes and a run-scoring single by Dustin Martin. Binghamton added two more runs in the eighth and Cohoon added an insurance run with an RBI single in the ninth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Armando Rodriguez (2-2, 3.14) makes his third spot start of the season and third appearance against the Harrisburg Senators. Rodriguez last started for Binghamton in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Reading Phillies on August 4. He allowed three hits, including a pair of solo homers over four innings in the losing effort. Rodriguez last appeared in relief on August 8th when he threw a shutout inning against the New Britain Rock Cats. Rodriguez has logged three innings against the Senators and has struck out three, while not allowing a run nor a hit.

LHP Danny Rosenbaum (7-9, 3.79) takes the hill for his 24th start of the season and fourth against the B-Mets. Rosenbaum is in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. He has gone winless in his last 12 starts with his most recent victory coming on June 2 against the New Britain Rock Cats. The southpaw lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in his last start on August 5. He surrendered six runs (four earned) on six hits over four innings. Over three starts versus Binghamton, Rosenbaum has gone 1-2 with a 2.45 ERA. In 22.0 innings, he has struck out 15 and allowed a .244 batting average.

COHOON’S GEM: Starter Mark Cohoon tossed his first complete game shutout as a B-Met in his 41st career Binghamton start. It was his fifth career complete game shutout and first since June 16, 2010 when he was a member of the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A). His 10 strikeouts were the most since he fanned a career-high 11 Portland Sea Dogs on April 20, 2011. The two hits allowed were the fewest allowed in any of his previous complete game shutouts. The 6.1 innings is the deepest a B-Met has taken a no-hitter this season.

CLIMBING BACK INTO THE RACE: Binghamton’s win last night coupled with New Britain’s victory over the Reading Phillies pushed the B-Mets to just six games out of a playoff berth with 23 games remaining. They will play eight more games this season against teams above them in the Eastern Division standings.

MARTIN STILL ROLLING: After sitting out the previous two games, Dustin Martin drove in two runs last night with an RBI single and a run-scoring triple. The outfielder has hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games he has started. Since July 25, Martin leads the Eastern League in batting average by 32 points, hitting at .432 (19-for-44). His 14 RBI over that 14-game stretch are fourth-most in the league.

LOOKING FOR FOUR: Last night’s win was Binghamton’s third consecutive, the most wins they have strung together since the middle of July. A win tonight would match their longest winning streak of the season, done three times before.

SOLVING ROSENBAUM: After being baffled by Harrisburg starter Danny Rosenbaum over nine innings back on May 5, the B-Mets have handed the southpaw two straight loses. In their last meeting on July 31, they collected six hits and plated three runs over his six innings en route to a 3-2 win.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets conclude their season series against the Harrisburg Senators tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM. RHP Cory Mazzoni gets the ball for the B-Mets against RHP Paul Demny.
