S2S 2013 Team Top 12 Prospects: Boston Red Sox

1) Xander Bogaerts, SS
  • Vitals: 20.2 years old / 175lbs / 6’3”/ R-R
  • 2012 minor league stats between High A, Double-A: .307 BA; .373 OBP; 20 HR; 81 RBI; 5 SB; 106 KO; 44 BB
  • The most exciting prospect in the Red Sox system, Bogaerts is fun to watch. He is an above-average hitter with plus power, and could hit 30+ homers annually in the major leagues when he fills out. Xander is an average defender as shortstop and could be moved to third base as he moves up the ladder. The problem is that Will Middlebrooks now occupies third, so there is the possibility that Bogaerts will eventually move to right field which suits his plus arm strength. His bat is special and it will play anywhere in Boston, it’s just a matter of time before he gets the call.
  • MLB Projection – All-Star whether he plays shortstop, third base, or right field
2) Jackie Bradley, OF
  • Vitals: 22.6 years old / 180lbs / 5’10”/ L-R
  • 2012 minor league stats between High A, Double-A: .315 BA; .430 OBP; 9 HR; 63 RBI; 24 SB; 89 KO; 87 BB
  • He fell to the Red Sox in the 2011 Draft and has done nothing but exceed expectations. He is already a great hitter with quick hands, plus bat speed, and excellent plate discipline. An average runner who makes up for it with his solid base running, he has the potential to rack up 25-30 steals in the majors. Bradley excels in the outfield with great instincts and a rifle arm, and should stick in center field.
  • MLB Projection – Above-average center fielder who will supplant Jacoby Ellsbury in 2014
3) Allen Webster, RHP
  • Vitals: 22.8 years old / 185lbs / 6’3”/ R-R
  • 2012 minor league stats in Double-A: 130.2 IP; 3.86 ERA; 1.49 WHIP; 129 ks; 61 bb
  • Stolen from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for the horrible salaries of Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett, and Adrian Gonzalez. The Red Sox come away winners landing this groundball specialist who has ridiculous sink on his 91-95 mph fastball. He gives up a fair amount of hits and will continue to have a high WHIP, but he should have great success in major leagues with solid command of all three of his pitches.
  • MLB Projection – #2 or 3 starter that compares well to former Red Sox groundball pitcher Derek Lowe
