Late Offense Propels B-Mets Past Cards, 5-2

ST. LUCIE, FL – The Binghamton Mets plated four runs in their final turn at-bat to defeat the Springfield Cardinals in a game shortened to seven innings, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the New York Mets spring training complex.

Joe Bonfe delivered a two-run single in the decisive inning to complete a two-hit day. The Minnesota native hit .318 in 19 games with the B-Mets last season.

Starter Logan Verrett allowed two runs in the first, but settled down and capped his day with four shutout frames. A third-round selection in the 2011 draft, the Texan split time between the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) and St. Lucie Mets (High-A) last season, going 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA.

The B-Mets enjoy a camp day Wednesday before making their final trip of the spring to Jupiter, Florida to take on the Jacksonville Suns on Thursday.
