Aberdeen 3 - Brooklyn 1

The Cyclones were not able to provide much with the bats in a 3-0 loss to the Aberdeen IronBirds on Wednesday. The game was called final before the start of the bottom of the eighth inning due to rain. IronBirds starting pitcher Steven Brault, whose two starts of the season have both come against the Cyclones, allowed only one hit in 5.2 IP, the Cyclones lone hit of the game.

All three runs were charged to Cyclones starter John Gant , who suffers his first loss of the season. However, Gant accomplished a feat that no Cyclones pitcher has done yet this season, striking out ten Aberdeen batters. In relief, RHP Ricky Knapp pitched one inning of shutout ball.

The Ironbirds got on the board early scoring once in each the first and second inning. Sam Kimmel started the inning with a leadoff single to left field, and would eventually advance to third on a stolen base. Kimmel then scored on an RBI single from Conor Bierfeldt. In the bottom of the second, Trey Mancini connected on a double that later resulted into a run after a two out double by Jared Breen. Breen was thrown out trying to advance to third.

The IronBirds added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, making it 3-0. Kristopher Richards was hit on a pitch from Gant, landing him on first. Richards then used his speed to steal second, giving Bierfeldt another opportunity to drive in a run. Bierfelt singled to left scoring Richards for his second RBI of the game.

The Cyclones only hit of the game came from Anthony Chavez in the third inning on a line drive single to left field. Before Chavez singled, James Roche started the inning with a walk. Roche and Chavez then advanced to third on a groundout from Patrick Biondi. With two outs, Gavin Cecchini had a chance to tie the game with a base hit, but rather struck out swinging to end the inning.  press release
