Hudson Valley 6 - Brooklyn 5



The Hudson Valley Renegades would benefit from four Cyclones errors en route to a 6-5 win in 10 innings. Both teams would combine to commit nine errors on the evening, four by the Cyclones that led to four unearned runs.

The scoring started in the first inning as the Cyclones sent up 10 batters, scoring five runs on two errors and four hits. Jorge Rivero led the game off with a base hit to right field, bringing up Gavin Cecchini who struck out for the first out of the inning. L.J. Mazzilli and Jared King both singled to load the bases with one out, bringing Matt Oberste up to the plate. Oberste would be credited with a double down the left field line scoring all three runs and thanks to a fielding error by Ismel Antunez, Oberste would actually reach third base. Alex Sanchez would strike out and James Roche walked to put men on the corners with two outs bringing up Tomas Nido. Renegades starting pitcher, Ben Griset, threw a wild pitch with Nido batting moving Roche to second and scoring Oberste to give the Cyclones a 4-0 lead. Nido proceeded to hit a ground ball to shortstop, Pat Blair, that was fumbled, scoring Roche and allowing Nido to reach first base, giving the Cyclones a 5-0 lead.

The Renegades would respond in the bottom of the first inning with a run, the only earned that Cyclones starter Miller Diaz would allow. After striking out the leadoff batter, Diaz would walk Pat Blair with one out. Ariel Soriano would then pop out in foul territory to first baseman, Matt Oberste. With two out, Diaz threw a wild pitch moving Blair to second and Blair would then come around to score during that at bat by Johnny Field as he proceed to single to center field, cutting the deficit to 5-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Renegades would score three unearned runs on two errors by Brooklyn. Julian Ridings started the inning off by reaching on a fielding error by Oberste at first base, and with Pat Blair at-bat, Ridings would steal second base. Blair then worked a walk to put men on first and second with no out and Ariel Soriano stepping to the dish. Soriano would single to load the bases with no out and cleanup man, Johnny Field coming up to bat. Field would hit a grounder to third baseman, Anthony Chavez who threw the ball away on a force-out attempt, scoring Ridings and moving each runner up one base. Oscar Hernandez then grounded into a force-out at second, scoring Blair from third, and leaving Soriano at third and Hernandez at first with one out. With the score 5-3 and the tying run at first, Omar Narvaez singled to left scoring Soriano and cutting the lead now to 5-4. Miller Diaz would work out of further trouble in the inning, without any more runs to scoring in the inning.

The Renegades would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, the fourth unearned run of the game. With one out, Ridings singled and Blair was hit by a pitch bringing up Soriano who would strike out for the second out of the inning. With Johnny Field batting, both Ridings and Blair attempted a double steal, and Cyclones catcher, Tomas Nido tried catching Ridings at third and threw the ball into left field scoring Ridings and tying the game at 5-5. Diaz would finish the game after 5.0 IP, giving up five hits, walking two, striking out seven, giving up five runs, only one of which was earned.

Shane Bay entered in the bottom of the 10th inning in relief of Shawn Teufel and would retire the first batter he would face, Johnny Field, before surrendering a single to Oscar Hernndez. After striking out Omar Narvaez, Darryl George would single to left, moving Hernandez to third with two out. George would advance to second on defensive indifference, before John Alexander would reach first on a two-out walk. With the bases loaded and two out, James Harris singled to right scoring Hernandez, and giving the Renegades the 6-5 victory in 10 innings.  Press Release
