Mets Defeat Bradenton 4-0

PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — Rainy Lara pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out eight and the Mets defeated the Bradenton Marauders 4-0 at Tradition Field on Tuesday.

Lara allowed five hits while issuing two walks and picked up his second win of the season.

The Mets (40-33) had a three-run first inning to jump out to the lead. Dustin Lawley’s RBI infield single to third scored T.J. Rivera. Kevin Plawecki’s RBI infield single to second brought in Matt den Dekker to make it 2-0. Cam Maron ripped an RBI ground-rule double to left to plate Lawley to extend the lead.

The Mets pushed across a run in the seventh inning to make it 4-0. Jayce Boyd drilled an RBI double to right-center to score den Dekker from first.

Plawecki, Maron, den Dekker, and Charley Thurber each had two hits apiece.

Bret Mitchell induced a groundout to strand two runners in the sixth. Mitchell walked three consecutive batters with two outs in the seventh before Hamilton Bennett struck out Willy Garcia with the bases loaded to escape the jam.

Bennett pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings while giving up one hit and a walk and striking out three for his sixth save.
