July 9th, Mets 10, Giants 6




Tuesday night in San Francisco Marlon Byrd hit a grand slam in the top of the 8th inning as the Mets come from behind and beat the Giants 10-6. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and the Giants got off to 2-nothing lead in the 2nd inning.  In the 4th, the Mets got to Barry Zito scoring three times to take the lead as Andrew Brown had a 2 run double and Omar Quintanilla,who had 3 hits on the night, added an rbi single.  The Giants tied the game in the bottom of the 5th.  In the top of the 6th Anthony Recker hit a 2 run homer (#5) to give the Mets a 5-3 lead, but against Gee,  San Francisco scored a run in the 6th and 7th and the game was tied at 5. Finally, in the top of the 8th the Mets took control. Daniel Murphy’s sac fly made it 6-5 Mets, then Byrd hit the grand slam, his 7th career grand slam and  his 14th homer on the year to bust the game open off Jake Dunning. The Giants squeaked out a run in the bottom of the 9th..but the Mets hang on and win it.  Gee had a rough outing going 6 2/3 allowing 9 hits, 5 runs (all earned) he walked 5 and struck out 3.  Scott Rice picks up the win he improves to 4-5 on the year, Carlos Torres pitched the last two innings to lock it down. The Mets pumped out 12 hits on the night. Marlon Byrd and David Wright each had 2 hits piece. Wright extended his hitting streak to 10 games.  The Mets have now won 3 straight games and are 4-1 on this road trip. Overall the Mets stand at 39-48 and are now over .500 on the road with a 22-21 mark. Wednesday Afternoon the Mets go for the sweep in SF.
