This
is the one area I like about Sandy Alderson. He seems to have a good sense of asking for more than
he would be giving up. If you do that consistently, some turn into real deals.
Bradley has much more long term upside than Parnell, though I would be happy
with either of them. I do think the Mets need to get on with the business of
putting a more potent lineup out there every day.
Bradley
had a hard time with it when he came up for the first time, but who doesn’t
(remember Dominic Brown?)
The
best thing about the Francesa statement is ‘others’. There seems to be some
action out there on Parnell so we’ll have to see if he’s the ‘definite no’ that
Alderson said he was.
My
guess in only David Wright and Matt Harvey have no trade tags on them right now.
Next winter’s Rule 5 eligible list has some

‘done for the year’.
As Toby Hyde likes to say,
‘pitchers get hurt’. Sure, it turned out to be a bad sign, but it looked pretty
good the day it happened. I’m not going to spend any time telling you this was
a bad deal. It was what it was. The Mets needed a pitcher and Marcum was one of
the guys that were out there. Sure, he came with some medical history, but what
pitcher doesn’t after throwing 200,000 curveballs since high school.
Officially,
it’s called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and the surgery is on Monday. You’ve seen
the last of him as a New York Met.
The
Mets activated RP Gonzalez Germen and will convert Carlos
Torres back to a starter until Jon Niese
returns.

Marcum was a worthwhile gamble.
I love how Sandy values his assets. Ask for the moon because the other teams aren't going to just offer it. If Parnell is really in demand, he'll net a top prospect. It's just going to have to go to the deadline. Teams blink when they get desperate. I'm not as enamored with JBJ as others. I want either Bogaerts or Castellanos from Detroit. They can either fit into the Mets plans or be lynchpins for another deal.
That list is wrong....it contains a lot of 2011 draftees.
I think half that list is wrong. Montero was signed in '11. Synder drafted in '10. It would be '09 draftees or signs.
You would definitely have to keep at least 15 of them if that list is accurate. But holding onto that many would probably be impossible. We would have to trade some of them away so we don't lose them for nothing. I also remember that matz should be on that list as well.
We should be trading Parnell, Murphy and Byrd, cause they are not part of our future. I hope Sandy mess this up like he did last year with Hairston???
Exactly. There's no way the Mets could keep half of them if that was real. Mazzoni and half of them were drafted in the same year as Nimmo and Fulmer.
Now, I don't know when Tapia or Ynoa were signed so that could be interesting. I'm a little worried about Matz and Akeel Morris. I remember two years ago Mack was saying Morris could be a number one starter a d then he couldn't throw strikes. Now it seems as if he's figure it out. That's another good arm in a system that seems to keep coming up with them.

The Rule V Draft is held annually during baseball's Winter Meetings. Teams must file a 40-man roster with the league office by November 20. Any player who fits all of the criteria below is eligible for the Rule V Draft:
Player is not on the 40 man roster
Player has been in the minor leagues for at least 4 years if he was signed after age 19 (was 3 years before the 2006 CBA).
Player has been in the minor leagues for at least 5 years if he was signed before age 19 (was 4 years before the 2006 CBA).
To me that sounds that the 2010 draft class is eligible and the 2009 HS kids/IFA signings.

Players are naturally protected from the Rule 5 draft 4 times if they were younger than 19 on the June 5th immediately prior to the date on which they signed their first contract, and 3 times if they were age 19 or older. If they signed their first contract after the end of the season (for the team to which they're assigned), then their natural Rule 5 protection extends an additional year.

The list I e-mailed Mack, which he uses in this post, is the list of Mets who will be first time Rule 5 eligible in NEXT year's draft, i.e. the draft that takes place in December of 2014. The list that was posted in the comments section by "The Closer" (from my site) is the list for THIS year's draft, which will take place in December of 2013 (though I haven't updated in awhile). Hopefully, that clears up the confusion.
