Q and A - Drew Pomeranz

Michael Scannell  to me -

We talked about a year and a half ago about IF the Mets were going to move Wright to Colorado that Drew Pomeranz might be a solid part of a return.  So far he's had trouble getting it together in the majors.  At AAA (PCL), he's got a 3:1 K:BB ratio and over a K per inning.  I wonder if the Mets might take a chance on him as a low risk/high reward.

The Rockies officially put the word out on Monday that they were in the market for a rotation pitcher. It’s obvious that they have decided to look outside of their organization for the missing piece that Pomeranz can’t seem to become.

I can’t think or a worse situation for a pitcher. A major league team in Denver and the AAA franchise in even thinner air in Colorado Springs. It is close to impossible to project how any pitcher there would stat out under normal weather conditions.

Michael, I think Pomeranz is very available and could have great upside, but for who? Would trading Jeremy Hefner for Pomeranz straight up be a wise move? Frankly, Hefner already has proven himself at the major league level.

No, right now you would have to get the Rockies to throw in one of their young outfielders (Kyle Parker or Tim Wheeler) with Pomeranz for Hefner, which just isn’t going to happen unless someone doesn’t do an overwhelming public relations job on why you should acquire Hefner.

Me? I can’t even calculate the upside of  a possible Harvey, Wheeler, Syndergaard, Montero, Pomeranz rotation. It takes my breath away.

As always Mack, thanks for the great response. In the right situation I think Drew could still thrive and I'd love for the Mets to pick him up cheaply and be the second LHP in the rotation. Call Sandy.
