LAST GAME: The B-Mets packed all of their runs into the second inning and held on to defeat the Bowie Baysox, 3-2 on Tuesday night at Prince George’s Stadium. Bowie scored in the bottom of the first inning on a wild pitch from Logan Verrett. The offense responded with a three spot in the second. Cory Vaughn smashed a solo home run to lead off the inning. Richard Lucas came through with a sac fly and Wilfredo Tovar singled to give Binghamton a 3-1 lead. Bowie scored one run in the seventh against Chasen Bradford, but the bullpen held on for the victory. Jeff Walters threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his record-setting 37th save of the season.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: LHP Mark Cohoon makes his 20th start for the B-Mets and second against Bowie. On June 16, he got a no-decision after allowing four runs in five innings. His last start on August 22 was a loss against Akron. In five innings he gave up five runs (only one earned) on nine hits. That game ended a stretch of five consecutive wins in as many starts. Cohoon is the franchise leader in wins (23), games started (64), innings pitched (382.1), and strikeouts (268). He began the season in the B-Met bullpen, and made four appearances. As a starter, he is 7-4 with a 3.89 ERA. The Mets drafted Cohoon in the 12th round of the 2008 draft out of North Central Texas College.

BOWIE STARTER: RHP Mike Wright makes his 26th start of the season for the Baysox, and first against the B-Mets. He has been the most successful Baysox pitcher this season, and is tied for the second-most wins in the league (11). He began the year by winning each of his first six decisions, and has also won his last five decisions. His last start was a no-decision on August 23 against New Britain. He allowed two runs and nine hits over six innings. In 13 home starts, he is 7-1 with a 2.80 ERA. In 141.0 innings pitched, the righty has struck out 134 and allowed an opponent batting average of .265. Wright was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft out of East Carolina University.

FRANCHISE RECORD: Last night’s win gave Binghamton their franchise-record 83rd win of the season. Their previous high was 82 victories, set in 1994, 1998, and 2000. The B-Mets have clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2004, and clinched the regular season division title for the first time since 2000.

FRANCHISE RECORD 2.0: Jeff Walters threw a perfect ninth inning last night and notched his league-leading 37th save. That save pushes Walters past Tim Lavigne for the  most career saves as a B-Met. Lavigne pitched for Binghamton from 2002-2005, and again in 2008. Walters has set a new save record after pitching in 52 games in his first season at the Double-A level. He is 37-41 in save chances.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE: Cory Vaughn and Chasen Bradford were selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League yesterday. They are two of the five New York Met farmhands that will compete for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The Scorpions are comprised of players from the Braves, Giants, Pirates, and Yankees in addition to the Mets.

HIGH STRIKEOUT NUMBERS: Binghamton pitching struck out four batters last night, pushing their season total to 1,145. That is a new franchise record. As a staff, they average 8.41 K/9 innings. They have 29 more strikeouts than any other team (NH: 1116).

PITCHING NUMBERS: Binghamton bounced back from allowing 11 runs on Tuesday to just two on Wednesday. In August they lead the league with a 2.79 ERA as a staff. They have the most wins in the month with 16 despite a league-worst batting average of .229.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton will play their final regular season road contest on Thursday night against Bowie. First pitch is at 7:05 PM, as the B-Mets send RHP Erik Goeddel to the mound to take on Major League rehab pitcher Jason Hammel for the Baysox.
