mets - miller diaz

Brooklyn rolled to its sixth win in seven games, defeating the Staten Island Yankees, 2-1. Miller Diaz picked up his sixth win of the season, going 6.0 IP, giving up one hit, no runs, three walks and nine strikeouts. The Cyclones starting pitching staff continues its dominance over the last seven games, pitching to a 0.99 ERA (6 ER/45.1 IP).
Jonathan Clark started the Brooklyn offense right away, as Brooklyn took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Clark drew a leadoff walk and with Ismael Tijerina up to bat, Clark stole second and advanced to third on a throw into center by catcher Trent Garrison. Tijerina then doubled to the left field corner, scoring Clark and giving Brooklyn the 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Tijerina started the rally that would give Brooklyn a 2-0 advantage. Tijerina led off with a single to left and advanced to third on back-to-back walks to Jared King and James Roche. Alex Sanchez then hit a grounder to shortstop, Tyler Wade who flipped to John Murphy for the force-out at second, but Sanchez beat the relay throw to first, scoring Tijerina on the play.

In the top of the eighth inning, Staten Island came back to put up a run of their own. Murphy led the inning off with a single to center, and advanced to second on a wild pitch by reliever, Cameron Griffin. Michael O’Neill then hit a fly ball to deep center that allowed Murphy to tag up and move to third base with two outs. Griffin would see his night come to an end after walking Eric Jagielo with two outs. Juan Urbina came in with men on the corners and two outs and a fielding error by Ismael Tijerina allowed Mike Ford to reach, making it a 2-1 game. Urbina was able to avoid any further damage in the inning by striking out Yeicok Calderon with the tying run on third base.
