Draft 14 - Luis Ortiz, Joe Sottolano, Alex Verdugo, Alex Jackson, Michael Kopech

draft - luis ortiz8-21-13 – Area Code Games - 4. Luis Ortiz, rhp, Sanger (Calif.) High/San Diego Show - The 6-foot, 223-pound Ortiz has been one of the most consistent arms this summer. Working from the stretch with an easy delivery and three-quarter arm slot, Ortiz sat 91-94 mph, filling up the strike zone in two quick innings. The Fresno State commit has a mid-80s slider that flashes plus, low-80s changeup and has started integrating a curveball into his repertoire. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/area-code-games-top-10-prospects/

9-24-13 - College Baseball Daily has learned that Army has fired Joe Sottolano for a “pattern of behavior” according to a press release from the academy. Sottolano had been coaching at West Point since 1992 becoming the head coach in 2000. He has a career record of 391-286-5 in his 13 years as the head coach. http://ht.ly/2AaneQ

9-21-13 –  Alex Verdugo came out swinging in his first at-bat, showing his strength and excellent bat speed by hitting a triple to the right-centerfield gap on his first swing of the tournament. A lefthanded hitter and pitcher, Verdugo squared up the ball his next two at-bats with deep fly outs outs to left field. On his last trip to the plate, in the bottom of the sixth, the left fielder was positioned nearly on the warning track, clearly aware of Verdugo's power and why he is ranked as the 20th best prospect in the 2014 class. .  http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9017

9-4-13 – Mack’s Mock Draft v1.0 – 5 – Brewers – C Alex Jackson – Rando Bernardo (CA) HS – We can talk all day about what a great catcher Jackson is, but this a future corner outfielder in the making. He probably will rate out as an average outfielder, but he does have a ++ arm that will work well out there. But, you’re drafting this guy for his bat. Is one of the top projected power hitters of the draft.
