Herb G - Mets Grapefruit Record: 14 - 11 = .560

With today's win over the Cardinals, the Mets' Grapefruit League record now stands at 14 - 11 for a W-L Pct. of .560. What does a W-L Pct. of .560 get you over a full season?

90 wins

Hey, I'm just sayin' . .  .

I think ye are truly mad, Herb. But the Mets can get to 90 wins if Granderson hits 40. They paid him 40 homer $$, do it, and we win 90. If Granderson does an off-Broadway rerun of the Jason Bay sagas, we win 70-75, because it will be hard to bench him for a, say, den Dekker, making the $ he does...just as the Mets struggled so hard to get Bay going to justify his salary. So Curtis, you can go all Kingman on us and hit .230 and strike out 170 times, just hit a Kingman-like 40 homers and we're good.

It is a frivolous post. We all know that spring training wins and losses mean absolutely nothing. Even individual player stats mean little because they are always based on a tiny sample. Nonetheless, we watch them and scrutinize them, and analyze them, and finally make definitive pronouncements based upon them. We won't know whether the Mets are a 90 win team or a 70 win team until July, at the earliest, and even then there could be a late season turnaround that ypsets the applecart. So lets just enjoy the season as it plays out.
