Mack – Reflections of a Sunday Afternoon

-It was interesting to see Carlos Torres starting the Atlanta game. I know he’s scheduled to be the ‘long man’, but was this an attempt to add another pitcher to the question ‘who will be the SP5’ (his stint ended with four innings so it sure looks like a ‘long’ relief appearance)? Torres signed with the Mets before the 2013 season. He started 12 games for Las Vegas (6-3, 3.89) and pitched 33 times for the Mets (9-ST, 24-RP – 4-6, 3.44). This simply has been one of the best Sandy Alderson signs.

-1B Alan Dykstra made an appearance in the away game… it’s great to see he has worked his way back from a broken fibula (leg). I assume nothing when it comes to Mets first basemen so we’ll just have to see where or if he is assigned somewhere at the end of the month.

-RP Joel Carreno is fighting for his MLB life around this period of St and the last thing he needed was to give up a home run to Justin Upton in the sixth inning.

-SP Jenrry Mejia give up one run and two hit in five innings, while striking out six and walking only one (2.89). I have no idea what more he has to do to win the SP5 slot on this team. He left the game because of a bunion (I should have bunions like this…).

-C Anthony Recker continued to show off his rocket arm, throwing out two runners at second base

-Two-run homer by Grandy (.205)… this would be a nice time for his bat to start warming up, wouldn’t it?

-John Lannon (4.38) had a successful one-inning stint (0-H, 0-R). I guess this is how the Mets plan on using him.

-Why are the Mets still pitching Giancarlo Alvarado (0.00)?

-Another scoreless inning from Jeurys Familia (0.00). I think you can etch his name in stone.

-Another successful ninth inning by Bobby Parnell, though his velo is still a couple of ticks off…

-The team does seem to be jelling a lot better this week and possibly could be peaking at exactly the right time…
