The Vegas Matts were anything but doorrmats as Dekker stays hot and Reynolds reignites. Tovar adds one more ingredient to the "who could replace Tejada" mix. Akeel, Leather, Sewald...and Beck Wheeler with another nice game. I'd like to see Beck promoted to Bingo to see what he's got. Nice 2nd game for Dominic Smith, getting on 4 times. Matz a struggle, but you need those to learn. And lastly, an ace in waiting with Mr. Lannan! Trade him!
Question for Herb or Mack: Luis Mateo's last relief outing was July 19. Any idea if he had a bad setback?
I was at the B-Mets game last night. It was drizzling and cold. 62 degrees and dropping when the game started. Matz almost slipped when he was warming up before the 1st inning. He stopped mid delivery. You could see he was uncomfortable with the mound throughout the game. He was also a victim of a bad umpire and poor defense. More than 1 of those runs should have been unearned.
Matz didn't pitch like I heard he could. His fastball was low nineties. 9o, 91, 92 were seen frequently. I did see one at 94. His command wasn't very good and the umpire being extremely inconsistent didn't help. I believe the weather played a large part in this but the opposing pitcher didn't seem to have any issues so it can't be an excuse.
I was disappointed they sat Herrera.
Why is Tovar down in St Lu?
What's going on with Akeel Morris? He's been virtually untouchable in the SAL.Why is he still there?

agreed on Tovar, if you are going to live with no stick at SS for now, why not insert Tovar's glove at some point, which by all accounts, is far superior to Ruben
A few thoughts to the readers who asked about Tovar and Morris: Tovar is just off the DL - they won't rush him. The Mets meanwhile have Reynolds at SS and Muno at 2B, both of whom are doing quite well. So can only promote them, not demote them. SO there is no everyday starting spot for Tovar in Vegas.
In fact, I think (who knows) that they promoted Flores partially to open up high level every day play for those 3. If FLores stayed in the minors, it would have presented a logjam.
What about Morris? I asked same question...my answer to myself is that they think he can be a big league closer, that he was not closing until the prior Savannah closer (Coles) was promoted, and now they want Morris to become a closer in a familiar environment (the team he was already pitching great for) and get the feel for doing it before they push him upwards. He's saved for a while, so hopefully they can move him up soon.
Lastly, Mack, I will cool that specific humor you flagged, it can be overdone - and in this case probably was.
I wasn't suggesting that Tovar be jumped to Vegas. I just wonder, since he's no longer on rehab, why he isn't back at his spot at Bingo.

It was in St Lucie after all, so my comment was incorrect.
There is quite a logjam, with .345 Dilson at 2B in AA and .340 TJ Rivera at SS. Both playing extremely well, and Dilson won't lose any time, so it would be hard to bench or platoon TJ, or to shift him to another position and bench someone else in Binghamton at another position to make room for Tovar ot play every day. But A ball is far too low for Tovar for any length of time. It will be interesting to see how they handle that.
