Kooz breezes to 12th win
Jerry Koosman took the mound looking to hit the dozen win mark for the season and give the Mets their single record 74th win. He succeeded on both counts. “Kooz” went all the way while scattering 2 hits (all the 1st inning) and striking out 6. Cleon Jones’ two-run double gave the Mets a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish en route to a 4-1 victory.

Earlier in the day Cincinnati took another from the Cubs and the Mets (74-52) were now just 2.5 games off the pace in the NL East. An off day Thursday and then a weekend set at Candlestick vs. the Giants.
