Palm Beach 3 - St. Lucie 0

The Palm Beach Cardinals shut out the St. Lucie Mets 3-0 on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium.

The Mets stranded 12 base runners, including leaving the bases loaded twice in the first four innings.

Palm Beach starter Trey Nielsen worked out of multiple jams. For the second time this season he limited the Mets to no runs over five innings.

Reliever Ian McKinney, making his FSL debut, allowed one hit and struck out five in three innings.

Chris Perry worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to register his fourth save.

Carson Kelly drove in all three runs for the Cardinals. His two-run single off of Miller Diaz with one out in the sixth broke the scoreless tie. Kelly added an insurance run with an RBI base hit against Robby Coles in the eighth.

Kelly drove in Palm Beach’s lone run on Monday with a home run.

Diaz worked out of multiple messes to keep the Cardinals off the board in the first five innings. With one out and runners at first and third in the fourth inning, he induced an inning-ending double play ball.

Diaz had runners at the corners with no outs in the fifth and managed to get out of it unscathed by getting a pop out, strike out and catching Rowan Wick trying to score on a stolen base attempt.

Finally his good fortune ran out in the sixth. He walked the leadoff man and Luke Voit followed with a single. After a sac bunt, Kelly knocked in two runs with his single to right.

The Mets loaded the bases with two outs in the first, but Nielsen recovered to strike out Miakis De La Cruz.

The Mets had a golden opportunity to score in the fourth when they loaded the bases with no out. However, Nielsen buckled down to strike out Jeff Glenn. Champ Stuart grounded into a force out at home and Jeff McNeil grounded out to second to end the frame.

Michael Conforto had the lone multi hit game for the Mets. He went 2 for 5.

Kyle Regnault struck out four in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Kelly and Voit had three hits apiece for the Cardinals.

The loss snapped the Mets two-game winning streak. They were aiming for their third straight win, something they have not done since beating Bradenton three straight times to open the season. Team press release
