DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 8-18-15

Two wins, and a special one for the Gnats, but 3 losses in which there were a ghastly 15 unearned runs.

STAR OF THE DAY: Gnats winning sreak at 15; Ricky Knapp

HONORABLE MENTION: K Mets' Winningham, Mazelka, Kacmarsski, and Wilson.

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (68-56) 6 - Iowa 5

Binghamton - Richmond RAINED OUT
St Lucie (60-61) 2 -  Bradenton 5

Savannah (72-48) 1 - Augusta 0

Brooklyn - day off

Kingsport  (29-25) 5- Princeton 10

GCL Mets (25-25) 4  - Marlins
 10

Now Here's the Scoop:

Las Vegas' Seth Lugo was in line for the win but Cody Satterwhite blew it. Not to fret, as a stacked Vegas line up (even with yesterday's article topics Nimmo and Ceciliani only being used as PHs) pulled it out in the 9th.

But it wasn't one of Vegas' 14 hits that drove in the winner: Dan Rohlfing was HBP to drive in the winner. Jon Church, in his 51st outing, moved to 6-2, 4.33.

Binghamton planned to send rockin' Rob Gsellman (12-6, 2.45) to the hill. The weather caused a cancellation, though.

St Lucie asked Logan Taylor to get them a W tonite. He allowed only one earned run in 6 innings, but 4 unearned, three of which were the result of a David Wright throwing error. Wright walked 3 times and struck out. Matt Oberste had 2 hits (.294) in the loss. McNeil and Smith took 0-fers.  Secrest and Duff tossed 3 scoreless innings of relief.

Savannah tried to extend it to 15 (yes, 15) straight wins behind 6-2 Ricky Knapp. In a shortened 6 inning game, the Gnats managed just one run. End  of streak? Heck, no, Knapp was brilliant, with 6 scoreless, 2 H, 8 Ks, to move to 7-2, 2.43.

Michael Katz (.283) singled in the only run in the first. He has 44 RBIs and 66 Ks in 50 games.

Gnats have won an amazing 21 of 22.

Brooklyn - day off.

Kingsport sent out one of the Gonzalez boys (Merandy). He wasn't good, so they sent the other one (Harol) out in relief, and he was lousy too. OK, 10 runs allowed in the loss, but SEVEN were unearned! It must have been No Glove Night.

On a positive note, crushing Dash Winningham hit # 12. He had 3 hits (.269, 45 RBIs)

Streaking Mazelka (.367) and Kacsmarski (.351) had 2 hits apiece, and yes, Ivan Wilson (.260) was 3-4, a walk, and no Ks. Promising stuff from Ivan, whose Ks have been much lower in recent weeks.

GCL Mets errors were abundant, too. Five errors, in fact, equaling the number of G Mets hits in a 10-4 loss.

But for the Love of Lindsay, Desmond Lindsay hit his first pro homer. Pop the corks, and may he hit many, many more.  Anthony Domino (.310) had 3 of the 5 G Met hits.

The pitchers had 11 Ks (yay) but surrendered 17 hits and 10 runs (boo), with 4 of the runs unearned (ugh).

P.S. Both DSL teams won.

GOAT: Errors in St Lucie, Kingsport, and GCL Mets game that allowed 15 unearned runs.
