DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 8-28-15

STAR OF THE DAY: Matt Koch, Luis Ortega, Milton Ramos, Vicente Lupo

HONORABLE MENTION: Kevin Kaczmarski, Bingo relievers

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (74-60) 1 - Round Rock 4

Binghamton  (72-59) 1 - New Hampshire 0, 11 innings

St Lucie (64-64) 2 - Palm Beach 5

Savannah (78-49) 6 - Asheville 4

Brooklyn (30-35) 2 - Aberdeen 5

Kingsport(37-27) 9 - Elizabethton 6, 10 innings

GCL Mets  (27-32) 2 - Nationals 5

Now Here's the Scoop:

Las Vegas hoped Seth Lugo could replicate his outstanding prior start. Not quite, as he allowed 3 runs in 5.1 innings, but did strike out 8. That gives him 20 Is over his last 12 innings, highly impressive.

Darrell Ceciliani (.345) had  2 doubles (19 in 250 PAs), and Plawecki hit his 1st Vegas homer of 2015 in 81 at bats.

EY Jr was 0-3 (.176), and Vic Black (8.18) remains wishful thinking, allowing 3 walks and a hit in .2 IP. Matt Reynolds had his 28th double in 108 games.

Binghamton hoped Matt Koch (4-8, 3.76) could pick up the team with a strong outing. And he certainly did, with 7 shutout innings. Four shutout relief innings later, the B Mets manufactured a run with a Jared King sac fly and won 1-0 in 11.

St Lucie started Scarlyn Reyes tonight. Reyes was 12-5, 3.44 coming in for 2015. Turning 26 in December, he would like to go out with a flourish this year and have the brass believing he can rock and roll in 2016. Reyes was not on his game, however, and lost 5-2. Dominic Smith was 2-3, with his 33rd double.

Savannah's S
teamrollers came in an amazing 37 games over .500 in their last 103 games. Josh Prevost hoped to keep the good times rolling. Vinnie the Loop (a/k/a Vicente Lipo) hit a 4th inning grand slam andxSavannah sailed to a 6-4 win. Three hits for the rejuvenated Jonathan Johnson.

Prevost allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, on 3 solo shots...but won.

Brooklyn, just 16-29 in their last 45 games, hoped to stoke the lumber and mimic the Mets parent club's offense this final stretch of several games. Can they get hot and make a playoff run? Nope.  Villasmil was sharp, but lost as the Clones (.215) managed 4 hits.

PJ Conlon struck out 2 to keep his ERA at 0.00 heading into the last week of the season. Wow.

Kingsport's Nabil Crismatt (6-1, 2.41) hoped to continue to pitch his way onto Met fan's radar. He was OK, except for those 3 homers allowed. Trailing 6-3 going into the 8th, Kingsport score 3 in the 8th and 9th to tie, and broke it open in the 10th with 3 bases loaded BBs. Milton Ramos (.307) cracked the .300 plateau with 4 hits, and the K

Mets (hitting .268) had 16 hits and 7 walks. Luis Ortega (.290) was 3-5, 3 RBIs, including an 8th inning 2 run homer. Kaczmarski homered to tie it in the 9th. Love this hitting team.

GCL Mets roll into their final 3 games, a day after inflicting a 13-3 drubbing. Jose Medina allowed just 1 earned run in 6 innings, but it is hard to win when your team makes 4 errors.

Grigorix Estevez allowed 3 runs in relief to take the loss.

GOAT: Cyclone hitters, Vic Black
