Rhame is a hard thrower, and a tad long ball prone, apparently.
He has struggled mightily
in his brief Mets cameo in September, after 100 career relief outings in AAA's
Pacific Coast League where he had an ERA in the high 3's.
Career-wise in the minors, 10-19, 3.07 ERA, 29 of 40 saves, 317 Ks in 261 innings, 1.11 WHIP, 21 HRs allowed...very decent numbers, except the win-loss and blown save rates are concerning to me. He has only allowed 6 unearned runs in his career, so he can't blame crappy team defense for the W/L and blown saves record.

He's
described in 2016 in an LAD prospect profile this way:
Rhame’s fastball velocity will flash plus, and at
times he will spin a quality breaking ball, but stringing everything together
consistently as proven to be a challenge. At the top of Rhame’s velocity range
(96-97 mph) he can get away with lacking plus command or movement, especially
when he has the slider breaking late and down in the zone.
Rhame employs a big leg kick and high
three-quarters arm slot in his delivery, and his arm speed is very good.
Mechanically, he should be able to drive the ball down in the zone, and give
the slider sufficient shape to complement a straighter fastball. He’s built
solidly with little room for additional development, but pitching consistently
at the higher end of his velocity range could give him more leeway in producing
consistent results.
Bring on
2018, and let's see what you can do in spring training, Mr. Rhame. And keep it in the ballpark in 2018.

Though a newcomer, I'd sooner see the ball handed to him than Hansel Robles, Josh Smoker, Erik Goeddel and others who were a part of the previous pen.
Reese, part of FORMER MANAGER TERRY COLLINS' pen, you mean? I agree, those 3 you mention should be in the gasoline business. Keep them away from matches.
The (as I understand it) second worst bullpen in baseball in 2017, which now also lacks its best 2017 contributor, Addison Reed, should be up for grabs to whosoever is best coming out of spring training. Seniority rules are suspended indefinitely.
I hope he doesn't get Rhamed in his first 2018 outing...
