St. Lucie 4 - Bradenton 1

The St. Lucie Mets received a dominant pitching effort from starting pitcher Justin Dunn and relievers Ryder Ryan and Stephen Nogosek in a 4-1 Opening Day win over the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday at First Data Field.

Dunn tossed five scoreless innings and worked out of a couple early jams to earn the win. He scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.

Ryan pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts. Nogosek allowed a one-out run in the ninth but shut the door for a six-out save.

All together the Mets pitching trio struck out 13 Marauders.

The Mets offense came to life late. Dash Winningham broke a scoreless tie with a long solo home run into the berm in the fifth inning.

Luis Carpio started the seventh with a double and scored on a Michael Paez single to make it 2-0.

The Mets added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. Jacob Zanon and top prospect Andres Gimenez hit back-to-back doubles to make it 3-0. Desmond Lindsay followed with a RBI single to plate Gimenez for a 4-0 lead.

Zanon went 2 for 3 with a walk.

The Mets have now won five of their last six Opening Day games.

The Mets (1-0) will host the Marauders (0-1) again on Friday at 6:30 p.m. It is Free T-Shirt Friday. The first 500 fans through the First Data Field gates will receive a Mets 30th anniversary shirt. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
