David Wright to Seattle - Possible Trade Players

Somebody named Ryan Christopher DeVault wrote for Yahoo that the Mets have “officially” put David Wright up for trade. This comes after a so-called “team official” said that the Mets wlll “explore Wright’s market”. Unbelievable. They’d have my nuts if I turned a generalization into an official release.

Yeah, that’s right. They’re going to trade Wright the same day they decided to move in the fences, especially in right-center where Wring hits the ball consistently.

It was Colorado the last time this rumor started. This time it’s Seattle, so I guess we should look at a few of the guys the Mets might ask for in a deal for David:

RHSP Michael Pineda – the Mariners top prospect. Projects out as an SP2. 6-7, 260, went 9-10, 3.74 for AAA-Tacoma in 2011. 173-Ks in 171.0-IP. Ready.

LHSP Maurico Robles – I know the Mets need a lefty, but this doesn’t look like the guy. Had an 8.91-ERA for three teams in 2011 and currently is pitching 54.00-ERA in the VWL.  Think Latin-Sid Fernandez.

3B Alex Liddi – I must be missing something here. This kid hits 30/140 in AAA last season and ends off with three more home runs in 40 big league at bats. And now, they want to trade for David Wright? Also plays 1B and corner OF positions, all sub-par.

3B/SS/2B – Carlos Triunfel – Do the Mets really need another multi-position infielder with a bad attitude. Once touted as the team’s top prospect, he spent 2009 on the DL.

OF Johermyn Chavez – 124-Ks at AA with a .360-Slug… next.

SS Nick Franklin – big power in 2010 in A-ball, but lost it in 2011 in A+. Projects out as a second baseman. Ex-first rounder in 2009.

RHSP Taijuan Walker – killer 2011 in A-ball:  6-5, 2.89, 113-K, 96.2-IP, 39-BB. 6-4/195 1st rounder that will play 2012 as a 19-year old (turns 20 in August).

OF James Jones – 6-4 Brooklyn boy. Hit .247/.347/.378/.725 for A+ in 2011. 16-SB, 92-K/296-AB.

There’s no way to pry away 2B Dustin Ackley, so give me Pineda, Liddi, and Walker… you got a deal.

Are there any LHSPs left in the minors?

With the fences moving in, and the stigma of the impossible homerun hopefully removed from Wrights and Bay's minds, this might be a rebound year for those two. Toss in a healthy Ike,the Dude, and Murphy and perhaps they'll be some very healthy numbers by seasons end. Trade Wright? Where as I've lost any hope of contention for this year without Reyes and zero cash for upgrading the starting pitching, I couldn't care less if he was traded. If so, good for him; he deserves a shot at success and a chance for a ring. The Mets win either way. They'll either keep their star homegrown player and he'll benefit from a easier park to hit in, or they'll trade him and continue to build apon their ever growing and finally prospering minor league system. I cant believe they'll get a Zack Wheeler type prospect for him after having some Citifield jinxed seasons that included a broken back, career low homerun numbers, and declining defense. Plus he'll be making 15 million, so my guess is that a couple of mid level prospects might be all Sandy gets which is why I believe he'll be sticking around.
