August 27th - Mets 5, Phillies 0

mets - jon niese espn

Tuesday Night at Citi Field minus the newly traded John Buck and Marlon Byrd , Jon Niese took things into his own hands going the distance on a 3 hit shutout and driving in 3 runs at the plate the Mets blank the Phillies 5-0. Niese was a one man gang throwback to the Seaver/Koosman era doing it all on the day the Mets lost their two top offensive players.  For Niese it was one of his best games of his career going 9 allowing just 3 hits (2 to Michael Young and 1 to Jimmy Rollins) he walked 1 (Rollins with 2 out in the 9th) and stuck out 5.  Niese pulls to .500 and stands at 6-6 on the year and lowers his era to 3.69.  The Mets took a 1 nothing lead on Kyle Kendrick in the 3rd on an rbi single by Daniel Murphy. In the 6th the Mets scored 4 times. Travis d’Arnaud hit a sac-fly, then Niese clubbed a bases clearing 3 run double to left center to cement the win. Kendrick only gave up 1 earned run as 4 were unearned and gets the loss falling to 10-11. The win snaps the Met 5 game losing streak. On the season the Met improve to 59-71 and 27-37 at home. Wednesday Night is game 3 of the 4 game set.  Daisuke Matzusaka (0-1  9.00) goes for the Mets. Cole Hamels (5-13  3.62) goes for Philadelphia. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
