Mets Minor League Report – August 30

Darin Gorski

MML Player of the Day - Aug. 30:    Binghamton SP Darin Gorski

Tucson (75-66) shocks Las Vegas (80-61) 3-1.

Another superb start from Rafael Montero is wasted: 6.1 IP, 0 R, 3 H, BB, 8 K.

With a 1-0 lead, Justin Hampson (BS, 8) (L, 6-4) comes in to pitch the 9th and promptly gives up 3 runs on 3 hits (HR) to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 2-4, RBI.

Juan Centeno: 2-2, BB, R.

Binghamton (84-54) blanks New Hampshire (67-70) 3-0.

Darin Gorski (W, 6-1) tosses an absolute gem: 7.0 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 5 K. Although Gorski didn’t do too well in Las Vegas earlier, (not many do) he has shown what he can do when he is closer to sea level in Binghamton. With a 1.83 ERA and 0.86 WHIP, Gorski is looking more and more like a potential bull pen piece or a valuable trade chip.

Frank Francisco pitches a strong 8th (1 H) and Jeff Walters (S, 38) an equally strong 9th. (H, 2 K)

Travis Taijeron: 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI.

St Lucie (70-60) jolts Jupiter (68-68) 6-3.

A quality start for Octavio Acosta: (W, 1-1) 6-1 IP, 3 R, 5 H, (HR) BB, 7 K.

Randy Fontanez (1.2 IP) and T.J. Chism (S, 20) (1.0 IP) hold the Hammerheads without a base runner for the rest of the game.

Kevin Plawecki: 2-3, 2 2B, RBI, R.

Charley Thurber: 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, R.

Savannah (75-59) takes 2 from Greenville (49-85)

Game 1: Savannah nips Greenville 5-4.

Tim Peterson (W, 1-0) looking good: 6.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 2 K.

Beck Wheeler (S, 18) earns the save: 1.0 IP, R, 2 H, 0 BB.

Dilson Herrera, in his 2nd game with Savannah, goes 2-2, with 1 RBI and 1 R.

Cole Frenzel: 2-3, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R.

Game 2: Savannah thwarts Greenville 5-2.

A nice start from Steven Matz, who gets a no-decision: 5.2 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K.

Wanel Mesa (W, 2-2) earns the win: 1.1 IP, 0 R, H, BB, 2 K.

Brandon Nimmo: 1-3, 2B, RBI, R.

Maikis De La Cruz: 1-2, 2B, BB, RBI, R.

Staten Island (30-40) blasts Brooklyn (37-33) 9-3.

Robert Gsellman (L, 3-3) didn’t have it tonight, could not follow up on Miller Diaz’s and John Gant’s magnificent outings the past 2 days: 2.2 IP, 4 R, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K.

Tomas Nido: 1-3, 2B, RBI.

Alex Sanchez: 1-4, 2B, R.

Kingsport (40-27) batters Bluefield (40-27) 8-5.

Martires Arias (W, 1-0) does good: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 K.  Watch those walks, Martires.

Andrew Massie: (BS, 1) (W, 2-2) 3.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K.

Ruben Reyes: (S, 1) 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, BB.

The middle of the K-Mets lineup romped:

Jonathan Leroux: 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R.

Yeixon Ruiz: 2-5, 2B, 2 R>

Dominic Smith: 2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R.
